Higurashi
« on: October 24, 2013, 12:38:43 PM »
I recently discovered the Higurashi visual novels. After checking the wiki I saw that there is also an anime,a manga and a light novel about it.They are so many I have no idea where to start...Do all of them follow the same story or a different one?And is it any good to begin with?

The main Higurashi anime is good. The OVAs are pretty much all fanservice. If you watch them, you have to watch Higurashi no naku no koro ni first, then Higurashi no naku no koro ni kai second. After that, you can pretty much all the OVAs in whatever order you want. If you don't watch the anime, you should read the Visual Novel. And yes, they pretty much all follow the same story with little variations in each. The visual novel I think covers the most content, that is if you go through all the routes and get 100% completion.

If you have any more questions feel free to ask.

In almost all cases, the best bet in situations like this is "watch them in the order in which they were released." That gives you the exact same experience as people who watched them when they came out.

Got any old fansubs on HDD/DVD/CD? Please take a look at this thread.

Yep that sums it up :P.Still I was mostly interested in the content which seems to be the same for the anime, manga, light novel and visual novel.

Yea it's true the VN doesn't have voice acting and unless you use the ps2 sprite patch it doesn't look too good.
Original

vs ps2 sprites.

Saying that, i vastly preferred the VN since it has better atmosphere.

Oh and whatever you do NEVER WATCH THE LIVE ACTION MOVIE!!!!!!

I think I'll stick with the visual novel. The PS2 sprites are a lot better. Is there a way to use them on a PC version?

Higurashi was brilliant, and if you're after something similar give Umineko a try :D Same sort of vibe and aside from the annoying whine (that kid,"UUUUUUUUUUUU"), it was great.

Heard the anime was aufwl...I don't know if i'll give the VN a try.It has no voice acting to.I don't want spend about 150 hours just reading both Higurashi and Umineko. It's tiring.I might even switch to the anime since I cannot spend that much time on my PC and the PS2 sprites along with other fixes crash on android with VNDS :(

There is no such thing as an Umineko anime like there is no tsukihime anime if you know what i mean.
