Collecting subtitles.
« on: November 03, 2013, 04:06:32 AM »
I don't really see a more suitable area to post this, so this should do.

I purchase a lot of my anime directly on DVD or bluray, I don't really download anything unless I can't get it.
As such, I seriously dislike the subtitles included on the discs and usually prefer fansubs. Problem is, I don't want to download an entire fansub rip (upwards of 4GB usually) just to get some decent subtitles. I usually check subtitle websites or Coalgirls and a few other places for .ass or .srt format subs, hopefully not just directly copied from the discs as vobsubs or turned into srt (Think E-D)

Anyway, most of the time, this returns positive results, but today, I cannot, simply cannot, find subtitles to "A certain scientific Railgun" season 1.

Anybody able to help me out? I know BBT blacklists this show, so no direct links.

I suppose this thread can also be used for other people who are looking for other subtitles as I know there are several other people just like me, using BakaBT (and several people who download raws and just want subtitles)

Name the subs you are looking for and if I have them, I'll get them for you.

Eventually, myself and several other people, plan to create a subtitle database, so any subs provided, please leave the source you got them from and the resolution they are in. (Source is the most important though)

Said funny moments in harem anime are no longer funny after you realize every single one of them involves guy fall down, guy grope girl, girl attack guy.
Its always the same shit, different characters (and lately, less plot)

Doki has started hosting their subtitles files on their website. And having the option to download just the subtitle file would also be nice.

Afaik there's no prohibition against linking to subtitle files from blacklisted series.

http://kitsunekko.net/dirlist.php?dir=subtitles%2F
http://subs.com.ru/

I've added a number of directories and files to kitsunekko myself, and I'll get the Chihiro Railgun S1 subs added as well.

Though I do wonder how you get fansub .ass files to work with retail discs...

Got any old fansubs on HDD/DVD/CD? Please take a look at this thread.

Several methods, one is to watch on a computer (i use my tv as a minitor)
second is to remux the dvd using specialised mpeg 2 programs etc

I will go into greater detail after work, for now many thanks for the subs!

Edit: just remembered I've got a file on dropbox that explains it all.

Wonder can we get a directory here on BBT to store subtitles. Like a mega subtitle directory. We can have only the best or all submission. I have seen various cases where they can be useful. Getting raws is much easier than getting encodes for older series. And the person can just get the raws and get the subtitles here. Especially for blacklist series.

I very highly doubt it, however, this is exactly what I described in the opening post that myself and a few others are going to do. Unlike current subtitles sites, we have a few ideas in mind for some things.
I don't wanna delve into it too deeply at the moment, but it's quite a ways off yet anyway, it's currently been a stalled project for about 6 months now.
Hosting is another issue, while technically, fan subtitles are not illegal, they are still subject to copyright, and as such, if a fansub group releases some subtitles they do not wish distributed around except within their own encodes, a DCMA (or is it DMCA?) may be issued, however, I doubt any of these groups, 1: want their subs exclusively on their videos - more spreading means more popularity. 2: would take legal action.
We also planned to have R1/2/3/4/etc-8 subtitles available where they could be found.

Anyway, this isn't really ready for discussion on my half. I'll keep you informed as to the progress we make, however, if you wish.

Normally, I would just make an ISO file and store it on my computer, however, yes, if you want to watch them in a DVD player, you're gonna need to burn a copy. You cannot add to the retail disc :P
