Troubles Seeding
Al_Sleeper:
Seeding anonymously is equally useful to the swarm, and does not involve any cheating.
Bozobub:
Dude, it's all e-peen, you know; it's not like this is a private tracker. Functionally, there's little difference, and it IS allowed under the rules. Hence, it's not "cheating", which is by definition a violation of the rules.
I don't bother with this myself - the few times I downloaded a torrent as a public user, I did so to replace accidentally-nuked files and didn't want the ratio hit, "back in the day, I never bothered to seed under my named account - but *shrug* whatever. If that's what it takes to get a useful contribution from the user, fine.
Freedom Kira:
The context here on "cheating" is not that it is bad or detrimental or against any rules, but rather that your ratio becomes meaningless because it no longer reflects what you actually did. If you're going to do that, why even keep a ratio?
Bozobub:
While it may be pointless, "cheating" is simply the wrong word to use. I don't see the point.
Krudda:
Explicitly allowed or not, to me, it is cheating. You keep a ratio here in exchange for a variety of priveleges other users do not get. If you log out, you completely ignore the findamentals of the ratio and just 'take' the priveleges that come with it. You did not earn them as every other user had to. It is no different to taking a math exam with an answer sheet beside you 'because it just happened to be there'
Nobody else had that sheet, so your performance is not reflective of what you really did.
