Question about seed and ratio and stuffs
« on: November 11, 2013, 12:38:05 PM »
Hi !
So yea, I came here again to ask things. Well the fact that I just joined like 2 days Im scared of having that "Warning" and am having a lil trouble about my ratio.
I have R:0.049 U:273.66mb, D:5.41gb Is this stat good for beginners?
So how many UL do I need to download more than 25gig?

I seed every time I use my netbook. And almost all of the torrents Im seeding right now has 0 leechers, and Im having trouble about finding a torrent that I can seed like crazy. Will it still improve my ratio if I seed all day but no leechers? I know downloading 1080p can improve my ratio faster but the fact that Im only using a netbook it can't play well with 1080p videos even a 720p it's not worth it downloading those files in my case.

And anyone can give me an advice/recommend me a torrent that can really help me seed more (Good H, Movies, Live Action)? Also I want to download many files but Im scared of losing my ratio, what should I do to download files without losing ratios ? I heard that logging out and grabbing the files I want to download doesnt effect my ratio, I tried and it still records my download and affects my ratio but just to be sure, how does it actually work ? And is it against the rule ?

(Sorry for being nooby, it's my 1st time to join on these kind of things but so far I enjoy BakaBt, has good community and everything :) )

I don't know where the threshold for warnings go
but maintaining a ratio of about 1 (uploaded as much
as you've downloaded) will keep you in the clear.

Keep what you've downloaded so you can continue
seeding it, kinda the best way to fix a low ratio.

Also, The Wiki has a lot of good information.

Warning threshold is DL > 25 GB and ratio < 0.1.
Keep your ratio > 0.15, and you will be safe.

Read the Wiki, it has a lot of good advice.

That said, here are some tips (in no particular order):
  • Download "Freeleech" torrents.  These are marked with [F]  in the torrent list.  Any downloads from a Freeleech torrent don't affect your ratio, but uploads still do.  Nearly all (if not all) 1080p torrents are Freeleech, for example.
  • Keep as many torrents as possible seeding for as long as possible.  By this I mean, at least 20 or so, and I've seeded more than 300 at times.  Some users seed thousands! This is quite possibly the single most useful  thing you can do.
  • Download identical content elsewhere, then seed it here.  Remember, just about all of the content on BakaBT (except for a few, rare exceptions, such as [BOX] fansubs) was acquired elsewhere.  Nyaatorrents, for example, is a great source for this.  Crucial note: It must be truly identical, down to the hash!
  • Rent a seedbox.  It's by no means necessary, but can be a real boon to people with ratio and/or ISP/RIAA/MPAA issues.
  • Browse the torrent list, and sort by number of leechers (click the "L" in "D / S / L" on the far right of the column headers).  Then download those torrents that have a relatively high number of leechers, compared to seeders.  It's a simple ratio, so comparison is easy.  This is especially useful with OLDER torrents (if the torrent still has many leechers, it's likely to remain popular).
  • Make sure you attain (and keep) "Power User" status.  Among several other useful features, this also lets you download new torrents earlier than non-Power Users, including those using BakaBT as a public tracker.  Then you're set, once the torrent goes fully public.
  • Once you start making headway on your ratio (and you will, I promise!), DON'T stop at a given ratio.  The more "padding" you can give, the less a given download rampage will affect you.  As an example, my current ratio is 3.287 (U: 7233.17 GB, D: 2200.86 GB; some users' ratios here make mine look like a piddly joke - lol).  I'd have to download a little over 5 terabytes, merely to bring it down to 1:1; I'm set for years, even if I never seed a single additional byte ^^' .

That's pretty much the entirety of what you need to do, to have an excellent ratio for years to come.

You have to be logged out while downloading the .torrent file from the website. The site gives you a custom key stuck into the tracker URL when you download the .torrent file. This key is linked to your account. If you log out before downloading it, you get a public key, which is good for the rest of the month.

If you're going to do this, though, I would urge you to think about what your ratio means and whether or not it still has the same meaning after you do it.

Same here, just joined a couple of minutes ago. After reading the rules (mostly on tacking/seeding) I'm still a little bit confused with a few things. One, if I am not logged in and I still use torrents from this sight will that carry on to my ratio? Two, how long do I need to seed? Third, I downloaded a few files from the past here and I keep noticing that I haven't uploaded anything at all. I'm just new here and going through the rules and understanding them in one go is not all that easy for a guy like me. Thanks for reading through this btw. ^__^

1. Read the post just above yours.
2. Forever.
3. Torrents here are overseeded. You need someone to seed to.

You're gonna want to read the Wiki too, not just the rules.
