hey, you stole my avatar and did exactly what I've been working on to it :< Now I need to find a new christmas avatar idea.

Oh and uh, on topic, erm, yeah, a lot of people around here watch anime that is broadcast on TV and think it's a "Disney Family Movie", morons.

i'd say you weren't too old, lot of posters here are older than us both, me being 18 only. but i'd also say that you should not be too picky about friends, find a common interest to talk about and see where that leads you, i took a big step and found a girl that i only knew had a common interest in gaming and we clicked and she is now my best friend and i don't regret ever talking to her (also i am very new to this forum so no idea how the general posters are here but from what i saw in this thread they seem nice so i don't think they'd think i am friendzoned, which i aren't since it would require me to have such feelings for her which i don't)

sorry i went off topic, but man, you have to try and see if you can find someone to talk to, you'll know if you click or not.
never too old for anime.

A fellow Dane! Nice to see you, man.  ;D God Jul (which means "Merry Christmas" ;) ) Velkommen til!

To stay on topic; it is of course a a cultural thing. Never fall into a trap of not doing something because it won't seem "normal". What is normal to you is perhaps weird in other cultures. "Normal" doesn't excist - what is "normal"? Nobody can define it. Do what you enjoy; life is too short to care about what others might think about what you do, even though our minds try to fool us into believing it is so important. It is not. In my culture, the Danish culture, I've come to realise the people in my country are quick at stigmatising people; put them into "boxes" where they fit. Anime in my culture is "foreign" and the Danish culture is a little scared to welcome foreign cultures; Anime for instance - if you watch that and people find out here, you're very quickly stigmatised as a "geek" or "nerd" or just "childish" - guess it's the same in some other cultures? I do believe though there are a lot of anime watchers here in my small country (The annual anime-con is filled with people!); they just haven't come out of the closet yet - In my daily life, I have never met another Danish anime-watcher. It's too bad. :)

Find a few, invite them for some watching, a simple dinner, and few drinks... It works; just a couple of weekends ago I had three guys over for  nice day  ;D

Maybe because of some other threads I was just reading, but my mind... interpreted that completely wrong.

I wish I could invite some people over to my house to watch anime with me, but apart from my neighbours, there's nobody else even remotely close to me. I don't even have friends I can invite over :foreveralone:

Fucing town I work in, there's like almost no fucking people my age in it... like there's a gap in the age grooup where 18-30 year old people, just don't exist in the town.

Oh well, at least my neighbours like anime, so that's a good thing. They also love the same anime I love - an added benefit.

I thought you were talking about a foursome at first... Rawr!!!

Krudda, I know that's for certain my problem. Small country town, I presume? When I can, I really want to move to the Metroplex since there are a lot more people there that I can do things with that aren't old country folk...

Back On Topic: On another Anime forum I frequent, there is an 86 year old that has been watching Anime since AstroBoy came out and pops her head out from time-to-time. LOL

So, there's no age limit (minus discretionary age) for watching Anime. ;)

I just hit 40 this year.  I didn't realize it at the time, but I was watching anime way back when I was 5 years old (1978) in the form of Speed Racer and Battle of the Planets, and later as a teen in the form of Robotech & Transformers (American product with Japanese animation), but what solidified anime in my mind was watching Akira in high school.  Blew my mind!  Then I saw Bubblegum Crisis! during my freshman year in college.

As soon as I was making my own money, I bought Bubblegum Crisis! on VHS.

Unfortunately, just like in any industry, as soon as people see it's popular, they want to cash in and the quality and imagination in anime got diluted with formulaic high school life crap and propaganda that suits the whims of the Japanese government. (Whenever a sport anime is released, that sport gets very popular in Japan.  I lived there, so I know what I'm talking about)

That said, anime is STILL an evolving genre with ever expanding sub-genres and everything isn't going to appeal to everyone.

I've gotten tired of the high school harem anime and I refuse to watch wishy-washy weak male main characters (like Shinji Ikari *shudder*)

I agree with everything except this bit.
I admit, I hate this kind of character, it's annoying to watch, however, that doesn't mean the show itself sucks. In the case of NGE (your referenced show) the TV series was annoying, but enjoyable all the same, however, the renewal movies are far better, Shinji's less of a wimp, shit actually happens, explosions are fun.

All I'm trying to say, I guess, is I wouldn't judge a book by it's main character, much the same as what this thread is trying to portray: Don't judge people by the shows they watch :D

Gotta agree though, Shinji was just so fucking annoying to watch :sly:

Yeah, I did that but suddenly I found it weird that we were naked while we watched a hentai... (Bible Black followed by Princess 69)....

Nah, just kidding, haha!  ;D But yeah, it could actually be awesome if people arranged anime-parties in stead of LAN-parties. (Just imagine... Anime, drinks, games, girls in cosplay uniforms, guys with wigs and,no predefined norms of how to act, and a bunch of girls and guys who shared the same interest instead of going into the cold clubbing environment where booze is the only interest people share. That could be awesome :) )

You have dirty minds...  :-[

The raunchiest we watched was Armitage III (love that one); otherwise it was like Poppy Hill, Tamayura, Slayers (Dragon Slave FTW!), LWA, etc.  ;)

23 and still watching. Nothing wrong with it. Those who don't understand the culture never will. It's great to find people who love the same series as you do and discuss just like any other form of entertainment.

To go outside of the topic a bit... What about extreme anime fans, Otaku's, cosplayers etc etc? Is there an age limit were it's awkward to be one of those?

I am of the idea that you can never get too old for somethin (maybe diapers are an exception) be it a game, a sport or a media like anime is.

I am 20 right now and i dont seee myself droping anime (although i go trough dry phases whenever i see something so shitty that i lose hope in the media),

About being a recluse, for me human contact is about quality not quantity, get yourself some good friends are you are set.
