The point was people know Miyazaki enjoys his own works and yet nobody ridicules him over it. I was trying to say that views of people who make the media are not always the same as views about the people who watch it.

What? Slice of Life is usually more mature than other genre because they develop characters and relationships rather than gimmicky action and gag humour.

Beck, Genshikan, Emma, Honey and Clover, and Nodame Cantabile are all Slice Of Life -- there are plenty more like them.

^ This. I hardly get tired of the genre - almost any genre. One genre I don't like is yaoi (obviously) and stupid kids shit (non-mature, aimed for kids audience).
