Texas rich kid who killed 4 in drunken car crash spared jail

Quote
Miller testified that Couch was the troubled product of a broken home who got whatever he wanted from his wealthy parents and didn't understand consequences.

Miller called the teen a victim of "affluenza," a rich-kid syndrome that led him to believe money solved everything.

Couch was never disciplined, abused alcohol and had "freedoms no young person should have," including being allowed to drive when he was 13, Miller said.

"The teen never learned to say that you're sorry if you hurt someone," Miller said, according to the Star-Telegram. "If you hurt someone, you sent him money."

It's like saying Hey I didn't know it's wrong to gun down pregnant women! Why should I go to jail for that?

Well, the lawyer has a point.
Time to file a civil suit.
Money does solve everything there, pain and suffering, loss of earnings, loss of future employment, nervous shock...

According to the defense attorneys, it's the parents' fault.  According to that logic, then the parents should go to jail.  Wouldn't that be a fun way to write the laws?  If your underage child breaks the law, you're liable for the results exactly as if you committed the crime as an adult.  That might properly incentivize people to raise their kids properly.  But that might also encourage teens to break the law any time they feel like rebelling against their parents, so we'd probably want to loosen the laws around child abuse.  Give the parents a little more leeway to beat some sense into their rotten children.

Why does this surprise anyone? You don't remember O.J. Simpson? Money gets you the best of lawyers. The kind that get you off, keep you out of jail.

But, does it really do anything to lock someone up at taxpayer expense, because it doesn't bring the departed back? Civil suits where the bereaved get a pile of cash should help better than anything except possibly the death of the malefactor.

My question is, has this killer been drinking since? If not, how long until he strikes again?

That's what the death penalty's for.

Surely the little bastard should have had his license revoked if nothing else though...

I would be perfectly happy if Texas seceded.

I would be perfectly happy if California would hurry up and fall into the ocean.

Sad but true, it's TEXAS.

Yep a woman can't do what she want with her own body but a DUI killer can walk away from jail.

What next, rape victims must marry their rapists or be stoned to death?

Coincidentally, I have friends in both California and Texas, and while I miss them, I wouldn't miss either of those two states.

Wiki says yes! Do you think we will miss them? All those congressional seats all of a sudden open for the rest of US, doubt it.

I expect something like this will happen eventually, maybe in 50 or 100 years, especially if today's political divisions lead to deeper cultural divisions in the U.S.

Idle thought -- how come we Americans rarely hear about social or political strife in other countries?  The only time we hear about that kind of stuff is when it erupts in civil war and/or genocide.  Do, say, the French or the Germans or the Spanish have divisive politics on the same level that the U.S. has?  Or do we Americans just have a weird perspective on this stuff because of how our media is controlled?

During a commercial break while watching Jeorpardy tonight, Inside Edition had their story ready to go tonight on this kid. The one important thing I heard is that daddy will be paying @ $500,000 per year to keep this kid in "treatment" and out of jail.

And how much will he be paying in the civil suit. A lot of conservatives are just as outraged as the 99%ers. Jus the ones on the radio and TV and not saying so much about this because they are raising kids just like this one.
