The oscar nominees came out...  Why would The Wind Rises be nominated for Best Foreign Language film, and not Best Animated or both?  I mean if your going to nominate it for Best Foreign Language, that probably means it deserves a nomination for Best Animated.

Probably because it's not the best animated film? For the best animated film, the quality of animation also matters. And as you can see, it's not really the best animated film out there and there are are much better ones out there.

I've only seen this post as of yet:

It was, without a doubt, the most beautifully animated anime I have ever seen in my entire life.

I was under the impression Bob was referring to Kaguya-hime Monogatari.

Shit I'm Watching | Quite frankly, I don't give a fuck.

I just realized something:

Quote
The Wind Rises (風立ちぬ Kaze Tachinu?) is a 2013 Japanese animated historical fantasy film written and directed by Hayao Miyazaki, and adapted from his own manga of the same name which was loosely based on the short story The Wind Has Risen by Tatsuo Hori, a writer, poet and translator from mid-20th century (Showa period) Japan.[2] Kaze Tachinu is a fictionalised biography of Jiro Horikoshi, designer of the Mitsubishi A5M (featured in the movie) and its famous successor, the Mitsubishi A6M Zero. Both aircraft were used by the Empire of Japan during World War II.

Jiro Horikoshi designed the planes that would later kill many thousands of Americans at Pearl Harbor.  Doesn't that technically mean this movie is glorifying a war criminal?

How is the designer of a plane a war criminal? The fact that he designed an a pretty good airplane makes him a amazing person in itself. And for Japan he would be quite a hero. And the term 'war criminal' is used for a completely different case. It refers to person who take advantage of the war in order to satisfy their own personal needs. Like for example, you took advantage of the war and robbed/murdered your neighbor since everyone was busy and no would care what you would do at that point. Something like that.

In all sense, the designer of the airplane or the atom-bomb for that matter cannot be considered war criminal's. Sure you might not like them, hate them even, but they are definitely not war criminals. And I don't see them being glorified a problem. Each person his/her provided their own country with the means it required. The person who would authorize to use them, a totally different thing.

Most of the tech that goes in to war machines came from pure intentions.
Can't blame the designer for making something good, blame the person who used it.

Hear hear.

Also, yes, I was talking about Kaguya-hime Monogatari. Now, if that film doesn't get nominated for best animated film at the next oscars, then you know something is seriously wrong with the world.
