Your Anime of the Year?
Takeshi:
Let's try with just plain posting this time instead of a poll. It's just a lot easier this way.
Preferably some arguments as to why it's your AOTY.
Mine is Shingeki no Kyojin. There is absolutely no question. Sure, I've been entertained by a few other shows like Suisei no Gargantia, but it doesn't come close. I'm happy to know that there are still anime shows that can captivate me like Homeland or Game of Thrones. Not a lot of anime shows sets out to tell a good story. Snk is that show for me this year. Just incredible action, amazing characters. All-round an amazing show. I don't think I've been this amazed about a show since Brotherhood.
And this is coming from a person who already read manga. I can't imagine my experience if I hadn't.
It'd be cool if people could migrate any longer discussions to their respective anime threads.
BronBron06:
I'm reserving judgment till start of April cause worthy contenders for me is Samurai Flamenco and Kill la Kill
for all that finished airing this year, SnK is no doubt the best
ConsiderPhlebas:
Chihayafuru! Kept me glued to the screen - some animes just have that "it" that absorbs you into the story, regardless of genre.
dbml:
I guess my answer depends on whether or not we can pick something that started in '12 and ended in '13. If so, it's Shinsekai Yori. It was dark, deep and beautiful. Nothing has given me more emotional scars than Shinsekai. One of only a handful of series that I'd consider to be a masterpiece.
But if that is too old, I'll also go with Shingeki no Kyojin... for all the reasons Takeshi mentioned.
lololitas:
If you consider anime that ended in 2013 (no matter when they started), for me both Shinsekai yori and Space battleship yamato 2199 are competition for SnK. Add to that that SnK is not really finished yet (and had a few plot elements I didn't like at all), I'd be leaning towards Shinsekai for first place, yamato for second (because I love space) and SnK for third. Objectively speaking, SnK might deserve second over yamato, although I can only think of very few things that were wrong with yamato that'd justify that (which are also rooted in the 1974 base series)
