Why I feel I have just watched my last anime...

@OP: I feel you man, I often feel like I've watched all the anime that exist within my tastes, possibly excluding a dozen or so at the most.

But you know, every now and then a new anime pops up that really catches my interest and it turns out to be good. Only one or two a year though. Like last year there was Uchouten Kazoku.

I first started feeling this way some time in 2012. Ever since then I shifted my attention to manga, and I'm not talking about the long running action or romance types. Unlike anime, there are untold hundreds of amazing and well written buried gems in manga, with topics that never get touched upon in anime. Most of them are short and compact reads to boot.

So, you know, just a thought...maybe you could try getting into manga.

Oh OK buddy. I'll go make new threads about existing anime and rant 7 pages about a single series.

Sounds legit.

MrIntruder:
I kind of agree with your sentiment about a lot of new anime but you shouldn't focus that sentiment onto a single series as an example. Attack on Titan is a big budget series so it had the marketing power to really push it's name out there and I too agree that it was over hyped but try to open your mind a little.

Typically, I've watched a lot of series now and it seems as though the writers/directors of several series don't seem to have a fully formed plot when they begin an entirely new series so when you get to the middle and more specifically the end, the series just flops and I keep noticing this trend throughout. It's asif the people responsible for creating the anime never learnt anything about literature during primary school where you're supposed to have an idea of a story with a beginning, middle and end.

Other times this kind of problem can be regarding money, such as mid production they creators spend too much time and or money or other times it's because the creators are trying to appeal to a certain fanbase rather then sticking with any plot at all. A really good example of this is the series Dog & Scissors. That series had so much promise to begin with but ended up becoming completely stupid and devoid of any plot because the creators decided to focus on fan service.

I think that a lot of great anime gets ruined by supposed fan service but alas, that's what the Japanese culture that enjoy anime at the moment want but there is a divide, it's as Mean Miyazaki says "Too much Otaku".

If you want to watch truly good anime you really should just look into what you like to watch, and research those tastes and see what comes up.

The other issues however are that western tastes differ so much from eastern tastes. You'll notice in terms of ratings, any popular anime in the west tends to be lackluster in the east (there are exceptions of course) and vice versa.

The other thing as well is, try to avoid watching anime that is hyped up because the let down can be really big. Accel World was one of those series that let me down, watching it to begin with and the idea was so great, the potential of what could be used but towards the end the direction shifted much more to VR and became a battle of willpower rather then how the real world scenarios could have been used with the "Brain Boost" idea.

Another thing in anime that pisses me off is how many series that are a knock-off from visual novels, even using the same presentation format, such as a character being directly centred, why is there no rule of thirds being used?!?! This is on TV the limitations on the old computers the VNs were played on aren't there, can do anything at all...

To summarise, there is a lot of anime that simply cashes in on the same idea and features shit loads of fan service and then there is the other kind that really is original and unique and it's the latter that it seems you should focus on looking into but bear in mind that this doesn't mean that latter idea will all be good series and sometimes the former some series end up being extremely good.

Overall, go by what you like, not what others like.

What froodz and Takeshi said. Second seasons are always years away. Especially for nice animes. Go read the manga counterpart of most of the anime and they are better almost all the time. You might be a manga person after all. And have some patience.

Bozobub:
The real point you are missing. LeijonaSisu, is that 80-90% (at least) of every medium is terrible.  Whether anime, manga, American movies, American cartoons...  Whatever.   Most of it sucks.  That's ALWAYS been true.  Sure, fans of w/e genre may feel otherwise, but to the majority of people, I think this is a fair assessment.

Also, as has been (partially) mentioned previously, you seem to misunderstand the interaction between anime and manga.  It's VERY common for a given anime series to only consist of a given slice or story arc of the manga that inspired it.  This only makes sense; not every anime has the resources of Bleach, Naruto, Inuyasha, or One Piece, so that they can continue for hundreds of episodes.

Whatever, drop anime/manga altogether if you like, but I also think you want to be talked out of it.  Otherwise, why post here?  Nothing's stopping you; if you feel you'll be the better for it, just go, and don't look back.  I don't see the point of the anger implied in your post.

2. Shingeki no Koyjin will get a second season eventually. The manga will end eventually. Whether or not questions will be answered to the fans' expectations. Well, that's an entirely different question.

The reason why they ended things there is due to two things:

a) they wanted to capitalize on its popularity which is why we got a 20+ eps season as soon as possible

b) they don't want to create an original ending so they ended it after 20+ eps, perhaps due to the mangaka's request

It sounds like you're very new to anime and how its storytelling works. I mean, we had to wait 5 years for Inuyasha to continue. 7 years for Hajime no Ippo to continue after its initial season and then 4 years more after New Challenger. Very unorthedoux way to tell a story, but sadly how things are because of the need for manga material to build up so we can have a properly told story without fillers.

I would recommend TV dramas for you, but instead of long waits you're instead treated to shows getting cancelled all the time.

I second all of this. Also, let's not forget that anime is just a promotion for manga, and at the moment SNK is one of the highest rated and best selling manga not only in Japan but throughout the world.

On the other hand SNK's manga still doesn't have enough material for a full 24-6 episode anime. Just so you know.

I am a fan and I'm not going to tell you how awesome SNK is and that you're wrong for not liking it basically because different people different opinions.

The thing that makes people not like SNK usually is the whole depressiveness of the show. But I must say that anime loses many points to manga exactly because it's not nearly depressive or angsty enough.

--- Quote from: LeijonaSisu on February 10, 2014, 04:54:47 AM --- (click to show/hide)After 7 or so episodes I already had few favourite characters still and I was getting impatient that I hadn't really taken a liking to anyone.
Eren was just a block-headed reckless idiot who didn't listen to anyone.
Misaka played the annoying 'cool' person who excelled at everything with a constant need to 'protect' Eren from everything, and who had no other motivations what-so-ever.
Armin was the infuriatingly cowardly victim and obviously it was the creators intention to have you hating him as he let his friends get eaten and massacred.
Levi, the supreme jerk/prick/etc of the anime who everyone was entirely made to hate due to his ridiculous ego and seemingly being devoid of compassion.
--- End quote ---
This, however, is something I cannot agree with no matter what.
You obviously didn't understand the core issues of the main characters and where their personality lies. And calling Rivaille (Levi) a jerk/prick proves my point. You clearly didn't watch the show carefully enough.

Anyways, you're free to have your opinion. I know quite a bit of people who didn't like SNK, and it's okay.

Actually I'll leave this here too. Just stumbled upon it.
