and this as of recent, but it's more a break from the genre than a permanent disregard.

"Slice of Life" does not mean "anything set in a normal world without magic or superpowers." If it has a continuing plot with a dramatic arc to it, it's not slice of life.

Your poll doesn't make sense since a double standard is more like: I don't like mecha, yet I like gurren lagann. While it would make sense if your pool was more like this
"Likes shounen, maybe comedy,  nothing else, but my favorite anime is a seinen anime" If you don't come with where you break your own rule then it isn't a fully double standard, so the current pool doesn't make much sense ;)
