Quite interesting. A quick check on ANN and it seems theres about 4 times more yaoi/ shounen ai than yuri/ shoujo ai, theres got to be a demand somewhere. A bit curious, do you hate traps? Do you hate the show if it is a specifically a yaoi romance or do you not mind it if it is not the main focus.

There's nothing wrong with dropping a show because you don't like it.

I don't like shows that are not consistent.
I don't like shows with MC being wimpy, though I'm ok with it if the MC gets better later.
I don't like shows with no plot. Because there is no direction, its like being lost.

Shohei-kun:
I watch shows on a case by case basis regardless of genre if the synopsis is interesting enough, but I have a general dislike for mecha.

I also believe you are misusing the term "double standards". An accurate self-applied use would be something along the lines of "I hate shows with filler but I enjoy watching shounen." A more practical and real life usage is "It is creepy for men to stare at women but it is fine for women to stare at men."

SchoolDaysEX:
I think I am using it right. I checked a dictionary and it is treating two groups differently. Say a person likes shounen and hates SOL. If a person watches an average shounen, he would like it. If the person then watched an SOL drama, the person would dislike it. The person would then say something like "I don't like slow character development (which is present in both aforementioned genres of mediocre series), but I enjoy SOL".

I get your point though, I guess I could elaborate on some of mine.

I do not like action because it is far too often predictable. However, I enjoy gore despite fully knowing there will be gore and some main characters will die.

I do not like harems because 1 male character completely changes the feel of the anime and brings often brings angst, desire, and heartbreak to an otherwise fluffy anime.

I don't like shounens because they are many variations of the same plot of the main character becoming a hero, yet like tragic even though it is the variations of coping with loss/ pain and dealing with it.

I do not intend this thread to be bashing any genre. Maybe I should also state that people can post anime suggestions, and everyone can be more openminded xD.

Shohei-kun:
Much better elaboration.

I hate slice of life for its unoriginality from show to show, but for some reason it is my favorite genre. I expect other genres to have good character development, but when I watch a slice of life show, a genre based solely on character development, I let them get away with less of it.
