Wolfenstein: The New Order
« on: April 19, 2014, 02:56:44 PM »

I'm pretty stoked for this game, I like the idea of the alternate reality 'what-if' scenario that this game portrays, in which Germany won world war 2. I like how the developer of this title isn't focusing so much on the supernatural and turned down the crazy sci-fi elements a bit to make it more believable. Plus the Doom beta access to it is pretty sweet, except this little note I found a little odd yet enlightening.

http://www.polygon.com/2014/4/4/5581240/wolfensteins-doom-beta-only-available-on-pc-ps4-and-xbox-one

Looks like last-gen folks are sol on this beta. Probably means Doom is a next-gen exclusive

Comes out on May 20th in NA, the 22nd in Australia and the 23rd in Europe
Game looks badass!

I have a feeling people who own a PC or next-gen console are going to pre-order this primarily for the Doom Beta. The same thing happened with Bulletstorm and the Gears 3 beta, the most recent i can recall.

haha right? and crackdown for the halo 3 beta. Tbh that's a big factor influencing my preorder of it. This time around I'm just hoping it's a good game, (Which it appears to be so far.) Let's not let this one be yet another over-hyped game that fails to deliver. Seems to be a trend in the gaming industry nowadays.

It's better to be SP only with awesome SP than average SP with average MP
They simply can't beat COD ,BF or Titatfall in MP so who needs MP which will be active only for few months ? Like Crysis (2,3)

You may be right. But given that this game is most likely a linear corridor shooter, there will be no incentive to do a replay without multiplayer, unless the devs implement RPG mechanics or moral choices akin to bioshock that affect the outcome of the story.
I suppose we'll have to wait and see until decent gameplay footage is released.

I saw an RPG mechanic in one of the videos and it relates to your playstyle. The more you use the knife, you gain the ability to throw knives, the more knives you throw, the more you can carry, etc.
The only skill tree I saw was stealth, I can't recall what the others were. We'll see more about it later I'm sure.

What is the game's relation to the previous?Sequel, prequel or perhaps a spinoff?

I'm asking cause I never played a game of the series and I'm quite interested in this one!

http://ps4daily.com/2014/04/30-minutes-of-wolfenstein-the-new-order-gameplay/

One of the better gameplay videos I've seen so far.

Yeah this looks pretty good. Personally I have no problems with it not having multiplayer.

Just one thing nagging at me...it says in the article that the original Wolfenstein was an FPS. Nope, that was the third Wolfenstein game. The first two were top-down cover based stealth games. The very first stealth/survival games, actually.

It's the sequel to the Wolfenstein before it, according to this wiki.

Thanks :)
I hoped it wasn't since I hate having plot holes and the other PC game of the series is dated...But I guess I'll settle

According to Pete Hines at PAX East, he said it sticks with the canon of wolfenstein, but the developer Machine Games is treating it more like a reboot. I highly doubt you will need to have any prior knowledge of the Wolfenstein games to be able to follow and enjoy it. He did say though there will be plenty of easter eggs and throwbacks to the earlier games, but I think it's just for the fans to get a kick out of.

Looks a lot like Farcry 3.

Seem's fine. Something I would play if I had it, but wouldn't go out looking for it.

i dunno there was a massive following and competitive group for RTCW
as long as they make a solid multiplayer for this on pc side it would pick up big as there has been a lapse in WW2 themed fun for years since call of duty 2 really

i guess it's too bad there is no multiplayer at all, apart from the beta. Although, it would be good if the devs could perhaps release a multiplayer patch/update or something if the game does well in terms of sales and/or critical reception. That said, i hope this game doesn't flop, since i really need some new games for my ps4 >_>
