Looking for Comedy Anime with an underlying theme
« on: July 16, 2014, 11:01:42 AM »
Good Morning Everyone.

I just finished rewatching Clannad  :'( and now I'm looking for something light to offset dem feels. I want recommendations for a comedy series but that has a lesson to teach as well. For instance (Already watched and liked)

1. Great Teacher Onizuka
2. Baka and Test
3. Arakawa Under the Bridge

Not exactly what I'm looking for right now but if there's a different comedy you think I should watch please recommend it as well. For instance, watched and enjoyed

1. Azumanga Daioh
2. Detroit Metal City
3. Full Metal Panic Fumoffo

I'd prefer no romance in the anime (except if it's played just for laughs/doesn't take itself seriously like in Baka and Test), or at least takes time to develop (like you might say for Noragami).

Here's my hummingbird account if it helps, http://hummingbird.me/users/ChronoGear

Thanks!

-Ah, also, I started Lucky Star but only got through 3 episodes before being utterly bored. Does it really change  get better? Am I missing something? Let me know.

After Clannad, i re-watched Cromartie and daaaaaaaaaaaamn, it felt too great. It's pretty funny, it has Freedie Mercury and a big Gorilla.

Then there's Nichijou, Nichibros / Daily Lives of Highschool Boys, and you could read Yotsubato if you want, it'll make you happy ASAP xD

Try 'Ultimate Girls' -- http://bakabt.me/176919-ultimate-girls-dvd-xvid-mp3.html

It should be good for a giggle, it's a anime trying it's very best to NOT be soft porn/hentai and it mostly manages to do that.

I've recently finished watching it myself and had a grin on my face most of the way through it, I'm sure.

As to whether or not it has an underlying theme, I don't know, there might be one, but I wasn't looking.

Yes, there will be a review on it.... when I can be bothered to put that particular hat on again for a while.  ::)

well...you're probably missing a lot, but even when you aren't its a pretty boring show, way overhyped imo (the EDs are the best part imo)

+ usagi drop, if you wanna feel happy and have some laughs you cant get much better than this one
and here's some Comedy that has a "lesson to teach":
Maji de Watashi ni Koi Shinasai!!
The Eccentric Family
Tamayura
Ben-To
Blood Lad
Chuunibyou Demo Koi ga Shitai! - has romance "takes time to develop"

...although if you're looking for anime with meaning the comedy genre isnt really where you're gonna find it...

Looked at that Hummingbird thing, and wow did it have an unpractical GUI  :o Consider MAL, anidb, or some of the other places.

As for Tamayura, well, I love it enough to have bought all BD, Drama CD, and stuff, but "comedy"? Perhaps  ;)

A very few series to consider. I tried to sort out romance, but to be honest, I'm not into the genre thing, so you get what ya get :P
Soredemo Machi wa Mawatteiru
Natsu no Arashi!
Non Non Biyori
Seitokai no Ichizon
Sketchbook: full color's

I have an awful memory, but off the top of my head the ones that always pop back up as being the funniest are : Golden Boy, Gintama and Hataraku Maou-sama!.

Thanks everyone!

So far, I've completed Hanasuka Iroha: Not a comedy exactly, but still really, really good.
Watched most of Cromartie: Some of the episodes are hilarious (Mostly Mechazawa!), but many fail to entertain too...

I'm still checking out the rest of the recommendations. I'll probably check Nichijou next, Usagi Drop seems good and highly recommended, but it seems a little too serious so it'll have to wait for a while... Thanks again!
