Slow download
« on: September 26, 2014, 11:42:31 AM »
Good day to all!

I'm having issues with the download speed on my uT 3.2.3
I set my BT client to full speed but the download speed is slow. The average speed on mine is 230 kB/s, but the download speed is around 25 kB/s (kiloByte not kilobit).

May I remind you that there are a lot of seeders but few leeches on that torrent (Sword Art Online)

It cannot be on my computer because I can download at full speed on other trackers. It might not be my ISP because I can still download at full speed on other trackers and use the internet connection properly. I can't blame the BBT tracker for now because it looks like it is working fine.

Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance! :)

1. Check your client settings.
2. To be on the safe side, perform a test run with a different client (e.g. Vuze or qbittorrent).

Here are a couple things to try:

1. Turn off uTP in your settings.
2. Increase your max number of connections in your settings (both per torrent and global).

Versions of uTorrent from 3.x.x up to, but possibly not including, 3.4.x, are also pretty notorious for both seeding and leeching issues.  Trying a different client or trying an older version of uTorrent (generally 1.8.5 or 2.2.1 are recommended) is potentially a good idea.

If you like uTorrent's interface, qBittorrent has a pretty decent rep, although I personally use uTorrent 2.2.1.

It may be not the best client for uploading, but, from my experience, (properly configured) uTorrent v.3.2.3 does not have any problems with downloading from BakaBT in the above-mentioned speed range.

Thanks for your responses :D

I have identified the culprit: The uT settings

I also tested Vuze and the download speed went up to the average speed I mentioned (Thanks, Al_Sleeper) Then I went back to uT to check some settings. I changed the max numbers of peers to 200 and disabling uTP as what Freedom Kira suggested.

But I won't use Vuze because I need the function what uTorrent has, the remote access and the scheduler.

Once again, thanks and I can now speed up my downloads.

There is no need to switch. The other client was necessary for testing purposes only.

Okay, maybe not. :(

It only worked on Sword Art Online but it won't on Hyouka. :(

2 months ago, I can download torrents at full speed without modifying any connection-related settings. I still haven't modified it but the full download speed can no longer be achieved.

Vuze was able to download at full speed without much problems related to speed. Unfortunately, after I installed Vuze, my antivirus detected a threat (which is not connected to Vuze) so I went removing it immediately. I also tested another torrent client, Free Download Manager, but no help at all. I'm starting to blame my PC on this one.

Any other suggestions? If you will suggest the use of other clients please try to suggest clients with scheduler (the one same in uT) and remote access (still, the one same in uT)

Thanks :)

My personal setting for uTorrent v.3.2.3.
Try running TCPOptimizer as well: http://www.filedropper.com/tcpoptimizer

An excellent suggestion, Al_Sleeper, but NEVER get TCPOptimizer from anywhere but the original source (speedguide.net).

Rather than just straight-off copying AI_Sleeper's settings, you should run the utorrent setup guide (press Ctrl+G) and use the settings it suggests there. The optimum number of connections, upload slots, etc, all depends entirely on your specific internet connection.

Also, Bozobub, we've probably had this discussion dozens of times now, but pretty much the only person who thinks utorrent 3.x is notorious for seeding and leeching issues is you. It works fine for everybody else.

Now, one obvious thing to test which nobody else has suggested yet - have you tried downloading any other BakaBT torrents? You say torrents from other sites are working fine, but it sounds like you've only tried the one BBT torrent. It might well just be that the SAO torrent is slow to download for some other random reason totally out of your control - you do get cases where a seemingly well-seeded torrent is really slow for no discernible reason, and there's not really much you can do about it.

That's not true. I'm also of the opinion that it has worse seeding performance than its earlier versions. However, for v.3.2.3 the difference is not as drastic as it was for the first builds of v.3+. From my experience, there is no major difference in leeching, whereas seeding is ~1.5-2 times slower in v.3.2.3 than it was in v.1.8.5.

I tried Bob2004's suggestion by using the Ctrl + G on uT. It appears it improved its speed. Thanks
I tried several BBT torrents. Here's the results:

Sword Art Online (slot A) <301 seeds, 10 leeches>: 220 kBps (Where it was 60 kBps on my last inspection)
Jigoku Shoujo Soundtrack Collection (slot C) <9 seeds, 0 leeches>: 20 kBps
Hyouka (slot A) <136 seeds, 8 leeches>: 220 kBps (Where it was 20 kBps)
Jigoku Shoujo Mitsuganae (slot B) <48 seeds, 2 leeches>: 130 kBps
Takanashi Rikka Kai: Gekijouban Chuunibyou demo Koi ga Shitai! (Slot A) <57 seeds, 1 leeches>: 120 kBps

May I remind you that I know how fast the download speed is based on the number of seeders and the seeder's upload speed.

But it appears that these speed is only achieved on my computer. I usually download at my younger brother's computer (and he has no idea about it. ;) ) because I'm always away and I don't leave my computer on. But I'll check the settings there since I'm only 7 meters away from it.

Do you notice something weird about the results? I don't see much of a problem there.

It's still a bit too slow. From my experience, any BakaBT torrent with 20+ seeders is enough to saturate such a slow connection.

Thank you all for your suggestions. :)

My uT client can now reach a speed of 220 kBps most of the time

The only problem now is it has unstable speeds. Most of the time it is 220 kBps but in some other times it reaches with an average speed of 60 kBps.

But that's not a problem for me at all.

Once again, thank you and have a nice day.  ;D
