The thing with panty color and tentacles is that nobody take these things seriously. Try a little less in creepy and a lot more silly. Maybe try welcoming newcomers with a silly picture.

In forums, people don't see your face and your body language so it's not always obvious you are kidding. Keep in mind also that my ava also infuances what tone people think I'm using when I talk. If you think your comment could still be taken the wrong way, add a winky face or a tongue or a cat :3.
