The first I saw? About one minute of sailor moon, because it was on while I was at a friend's house doing something else. And about ten minutes of dragon ball z at a different friend's house. Later, I watched some pokemon because we only had one channel, but never a complete episode.

And you know what? I thought they were retarded when I was twelve, and I still do. So there. (And they were dubbed, so they don't really count anyway.

)

The first complete episode of anything I watched because I actually wanted to was the first episode of GitS: SAC.

Back in the 90's, when I too wasn't yet introduced to what is called anime, local channels were already airing mainly super robots and kiddie stuff. Voltes V, a relative unknown was probably the first I saw. Then came the Getter Robo's, Voltron(s), the mismashed Robotech and Kimba (only knew it being an anime after reading this thread) which were usually aired weekends afternoon. Shoukoujo Sara, Huckleberry Finn and Shoukouchi Cedie and others were my main staple on the mornings before going to school. Oh the memories of childhood.

It was Dragon Ball ! I loved this one a lot. I watched it in TMC ( a french TV channel ) and then comes a very long list of animes like Saint Saya, Professor Slump ( I think it's the right name

It came in 2 waves for me, one when I was 3 years old until about 10.
The very first thing I saw was Mazinger Z. And around that time there was also some other shows like Gordian Warrior and Tetsujin 28 that were on tv. But the show that cemented my love for the Anime was Macross, although we got it in the form of Robotech at the time. But still what a wicked series.

After that I didn't watch much or any anime until about 1995 when my friend introduced me to Project A-ko, Bubblegum Crisis/Crash, Fist Of The Northstar, and it rekindled my love for anime, haven't looked back since...

I can't be 100% sure of my answer but from memory I would have to say the first I saw was "Sailor Moon".
And then I really got into "Dragon Ball" when I was around 10 years old...I think.

first anime I actually remember watching were ninja scroll and the gundam series back in like 96-97 then I started watching stuff like akira and ghost in the shell and well it snowballed from there

There are four groups out there that have subbed the japanese version of it (according to AniDB.net), but unfortunately the series is licenced in the US (as well as heavily edited) and thus the torrents seem to be quite hard to find. However, AnimeFiends got a batch torrent on their homepage.

i remember when i was in like 4th grade in the summer catching all kinds of old anime on scifi channel at like 2 in the morning but i think the first thing i actually watched was cashin robot hunter(good movie if memory serves) and then i think like robotech stuff and some other shwos i dont remember and of course akira. right around the same time i started watching dbz (when it was on at 5 or 6 in the morning on saturdays) along with reboot.

slightly later voltron and ronin warriors and wat such had started airing on cartoon network so i started watching that
the same year i got cable internet(about 8 or 9 years ago) i started downloading anime out the wazoo initially i just wanted to wrap up my dbz stuff and check out dbgt. in the process stumbled upon this site and some others and have been a happy anime fan ever since

Well I supposed like many kids back in my day, it was Voltron, though remember at the time we knew it as a cartoon not anime. There was another that I remember that played one night on TV, I'm sure was a series. I don't remember much, just it was a science fiction (movie maybe) and it was a group of guys in a circle at a meeting. I've always wondered what it was...

The first anime I ever saw was definitely Sailor Moon, my sister used to make me watch it, but I didnt get hooked into anime until FMA and the ending is alright, you just have to remember that the movie is the real ending right?
