Before I could even talk, I was watching Superbook

Now the first anime I watched after I learned about the term "anime" would be whatever came on first on Toonami when it first started. I think it was Voltron but it might've been Tenchi Muyo or DBZ.

Mazinger Z. (anidb)

Some time in the early 80's, recorded on Beta tapes (!) from Tunisian TV, at a friends place. Obviously, this was back in the bronze age, before civilization and the word "anime" had reached the West.

Then Akira (anidb), and I think Ghost in The Shell (anidb), with a dorm neighbour in the early 90's. Cowboy Bebop (anidb) a couple of years ago when living with this German guy in Ireland (with a huge collection). I think that's when I realized there might be something to this "anime" thing.

First series I ever downloaded and watched was Vision of Escaflowne (anidb), I guess that's when I got hooked...

My very first was probably DBZ when it used to be on at like 6:30 AM on TBS or something. The first I watched subtitled (and what got me hooked) was Evangelion, which is still one of my favorite series.

Well I would say pokemon, but the first anime I remember would have to be Sailor Moon when I was 6 yrs old it was on before school. Either that or maybe Dragon Ball Z.

I wonder... I suppose Sailor Moon would probably be the first series I watched on American television, I stopped watching after Serena's voice acting role was taken up by a significantly less talented invidual. Also, the already tragically confusing plot was blurred ever more with the introduction of time travel and Mini-Moon.

I had seen Mobile Suit: Gundam piror to this as a result of my relatives adept use of the then overpriced VCR, but the quality was low and my understanding of the subtext wasn't particularly deep. I did enjoy Amuro's powers, as his newtype abilities reminded me of Spider Sense.

Well I guess it would have to DBZ, but it was the dubbed vesions and I don't consider it "real" anime

. The first series other that DBZ I watched was probably Berserk because my roomate told me it was his favorite(anime ends abruptly but manga is godly). I may have watched the Ghost in The Shell movie before that though.
