Having some major storms roll through my town right now. Apparently about 3-4 tornadoes are heading straight for my city. I heard all the sirens go off and started thinking "Oh crap...maybe I should grab some essentials and take cover!". I looked around my apartment for anything I REALLY wanted to save and I threw on some clothes, threw my Yu-gi-oh cards in my pocket, put on my hat and awaited the impending doom.

That's the true sign of a nerd. Your life is on the line, you can take almost anything you want with you to save, and you take anime related cards....lol sure puts my life in perspective.

Family heirlooms aren't nearly as important as a blue-eyed white dragon :P

I have my emergency box, I just shove my entire system into it and carry it away.

I have no heirlooms at my apartment. Those are at my parents house. I could have saved my laptop or grabbed some food or water, or even saved my monitor or xbox, but I went with the Yugioh cards instead. I put way too much heart into those cards to lose them now.

3 or 4 tornadoes? NICE. It must be fun. Here's pretty boring, we don't have any tornadoes, tsunamis, twisters, hurricanes, earthquakes, snowstorms, volcanoes, nukes, or anything, just a crappy rain and a lame wind, that's all. Ever. Not even a remote possibility :(. I want to feel the emotion of a tornado coming, doom approaching, adrenaline in the air, state of emergency... I WANT APOCALYPSE :D

Hmmmm, I would save... in first place my 1.5 TB HDD with all the anime, music and stuff I collected over the years, netbook and mp3 player (specially the mp3) with battery at 100% so I won't get bored, maybe some panties (don't wanna get dirty), Pockys, some sake and my plushie bear.

PS: Where do you live? And do you know where the tornadoes are or if they are still heading your city? Or it's just hide and hope it doesn't touch you?

I live in northwest Ohio. It's kind of in tornado alley, though we get less tornado activity than southern Michigan. The first wave of storms managed to completely miss the 4-5 block range of where I live. Some more storms of even more magnitude are moving in from Indiana that kind of worry me though. If you've never been through a tornado, you never really now exactly where they are until they hit you. Doppler radar can show you where they are possible or where they might form, but you just have to be on the lookout for funnel clouds and touchdowns. Once you see them you can either try to run like hell in a car or just hide in a basement/small first floor room without windows and hope it doesn't kill you.

I see... complicated :-\. One or two may seem like "fun", but a tornado ally does not. You have to live with the fear of one striking at any moment :(. Generally, with how much anticipation do you know that one is coming? And how frequent are they?

Where do you hide? Wouldn't be better to be hiding now? Or you have internet in your hiding place? :P

It's not extremely frequent. anywhere between 1-9 tornado incidents a year. Really no point in hiding until you find out if the tornado is actually heading near your house. Severe storms due to a tornado can be bad, but hiding is usually done when and if you find out a tornado is on your block. If you look outside and see it then it's time to start hiding.

And here in the UK we just get thunder storms when I am wearing sandals. I must have stepped in 10 puddles on the way back from the pub. ><

Where the heck do you live that you don't have to fear the wrath of Mother Nature?  Outer space?  Wherever it is, that's where I want to be.
It took an hour to write; I figured it'd take an hour to read.

I am about 2 hours out of Brisbane, Australia, and I don't we have had anything but a few large storms but even then you could sit on the back patio and watch it rain and thunder.

Nothing really happens here. Its kinda boring. Actually we had a drought a few years ago but thats hardly exciting. Then again I don't think I feel like having my house destroyed by some natural disaster. :P

My finals are this week. I never have and never will study for a test, probably because I don't know how to :( Either way, I always get an amazingly awesome grade so I'm happy :P
