Why, I ask, why?
I don't want to take part in the olympics. Neither do I want to take part in kata competitions. I want to go and practice.
I quess finding one that does full contact will be impossible. *sigh*
Maybe I was gone for too long. It's gone through quite the revolution it seems.
Too bad. *deep sigh*

try Jujutsu. it is full contact, even in finland.

You kinda misunderstood what I meant with full contact there. The kinda where you knock the teeth out of your opponents mouth.
Though even finding one where grapling is allowed in Jiyu kumite(free sparring) might be hard.

And no thanks to jiu-jutsu.
I'm a karateka. Blood and body.
Besides, Wado-Ryu has enough jiu-jutsu in itself.
Don't believe me? Just go ask anyone experienced in MAs. They should be able tell.

There's so many dojos at least one of them has to be good. Might just take a while to go through all of them. :P

ok. well in Finland you certinly can't blow oponents tooth out in anything else than boxing :P but in jujutsu you are allowed to hit your opponents head, I've also done some karate :P not much, but it relly isn't so dangerous :P they say that put on the glows and chest protect and etc. and you aren't allowed to hit oponents head hard... but well, it is good way to relax oneself. it is light and somewhat useful, but I like jujutsu and boxing more, just because you are allowed to hit harder :P

and it is good idea to check more than on dojo, every of them are difrent.

If karate is light it isn't karate. It's sport. As I said, I'm not really into that stuff.

I've done eight years of karate. Wado Ryu style.
We didn't use protectors. We did hit the head. HARD.

I don't like boxing at all because the gloves take off all the real usefulness of the hands practically making them just weights removing the hard effect.
Without gloves the knuckles in strikes get a whole new meaning. You aren't trying to batter the enemy to oblivion like in boxing. One good strike is all that it takes and the enemy can vomit from pain. That is, if you know where to hit.

Yeah, I was thinking I might actually try some Ashihara style too but I would like to have my basic training in a good Wado-Ryu dojo at least. I just prefer the simplified style and locks too much to give them up.

Because we can!

@JoonasTo
ok. :P do you know why they use gloves in boxin?? because if they didn't use them the person who gets hit from full power punch to the face, has not got that nice face any more... same for karate punch as well. I know how efective they are bare hands... >:D that dude never anoyed me again (din't do karate any more, had stopped about 6 months befpre this), but I also know how long person stays unconsious from one right hook... he stayed unconsious about 15 minutes....
so I say Karate, Jujutsu and Boxing are all very efective... hehe... it was fun when I did do karate when we hitted the hard pillows (don't know the real names in english) with pairs... I had my gloves on, the person who holded the pillow flew 2 meters back and fell to his ass...
well I haven't never done boxing or jujutsu, but my cousin needed training partener whowas about his size and somewhat strong :P he teached all the basics and trained with me :P I also know how to use Katana...

I don't know anyone who is walking time bomb :P

Yes I do.
But it changes the nature of the fight when you can take a punch to the face and not get injured. When a punch to the face is going to blind your eye, cost you a few teeth, knock you out or break your jaw you start to reconsider the value of keeping a good distance and evading. Get a few elbows to your biceps while blocking and you double the reason.
That's why I don't like no head strikes or padded matches. They too often lead to two guys beating each other at a close distance in an unreasonable manner. That close you should elbow/uppercut/knee the face or takedown not do jabs or hooks. Warps the match too much, in my opinion.

I also know what a rear roundhouse or a tornado kick does to a person. No need to wake up until tomorrow. And yet those are allowed. Yes I know, a lot easier to prepare for. But if a rear roundhouse heel hits someone's mouth you can watch the teeth fly regardless.

2 meters. That's really, really much. Even a good back kick against a prepared guy wouldn't do that much. You've got quite the thrust in your punch. (Or the other guy doesn't know how to take one.)

Who cares about self defense when oneself is a walking time bomb.
I completely lost that. No idea what he's talking about.

*sighs*
God damn with all these "sport" and "improving oneself" dojos. I kinda knew I would have to go and see the practice for myself but it seems all the ones I can find from the net are one or the other. I can just hope there are a few that aren't in some reasonable distance away from where I'll get a place to stay.

Like the sensei at my old dojo used to say:
"If I hear you making a fight out there you don't have to come here anymore.
However, if I hear you getting beaten up without making resistance you don't have to come here anymore either.
If there's many just knock out as many as you can. If you got one consider yourself victorious."
That's the kinda dojo I'm looking for. No radicals but no playing around either.

I'm not entirely sure what the kick that you guys mentioned would look like, but if it's anything like this, then beware

darn harpy is so pissed since her bike was stolen  >:(

And its not like it is my fault it was stolen.
I did put it in locked apartment house lobby thing, chained to the darn stair things, but according to the witness next door, it was stolen in like 2 minutes...and I just needed to run up and return the book (last floor...quite a far way to bring bike with me, no elevator in that  old house). I was back in like 10 min max. I have left the bike in that same stairway for days and nothing happened.
And the police, they are just genius. The witness said - no one entered after me, I did not meet anyone on stares, and police didn't even check the only apartment in which a person that might fit the description and I could not have met on stairs could have lived...
And its not like my bike was anything special. It is(was?) 2-3 years old and I am not most cautious rider, so I was a bit banged up and not really working now and then. But darn I love that bike. I had fixed it a bit up, I did modify it a bit...it did look like my bike and everybody always could tell that it was my bike ;(

After the genius way police handled the case (no way I could ever get my bike back, just no way) I figure I will just go out and buy another bike just like the one I had....I even found where I can get one.... But still I feel violated...and as usually police do not do a thing...
I just do not get the police here - the only thing they do is complain and collect money for some stupid things, abuse their authority and has no wish to help.
When you see someone being beaten up on the street and run to the police, the ones one can see on the street (I am a girl after all, not going to get beaten up). They (police you just run up to) even manage to say things like - it is not my jurisdiction go and get some other police. Then - wtf are they doing there and way some of my taxes go to them?

...Men are so necessarily mad that it would be another twist of madness not to be mad...

Bike stolen!  :o
I'd be fucking pissed if someone stole my bike.
I'm planning to make it last me my whole life. It is rather expensive too.
That's the thing I worry the most about moving to a big city. There'll be a lot more thieves.
My bike's about the only expensive thing I own. It'd be the most annoying thing if someone stole it.
Not just because it is worth a lot but because it's my only way of getting around!

@Hiero: Yeah, that kick is a read roundhouse. (though not well done one)

well I were the best in that course (on my rank) and that dude relly couldn't take that punch (he was the worst :P)... thats the same dude that I managed to kick to head with Maikenzuki (if I correctly remember that maikenzuki is kick... can't remember well... 2 years...), that dude fell unnconsious... he relaxed his hands and that hard pillow fell and left his face wideopen... and I know about what you said about jabs and hooks... thats why I'm not doing boxing ;D ;D, you can't kick :P but the punches are strong and damaging and jabs are also useful :P

Zuki means a punch so I doubt it was. Mawashi geri maybe?

Oh, they are. But if you're close enough to elbow you should. Elbows generate more power at a close distance. Not to mention they're easier to do and no chance of injury to yourself. And who doesn't love an upwards elbow followed by the same elbow coming down to the enemy's eye corner and blinding him? I know I do.  :D

Deathnote soon finished. I wonder if I should try a few episodes tonight.

On another note: I might try Ryubukan first. Seems like a proper dojo. I just hope I don't end up living too far from it. I would have to find a place from somewhere between the dojo and the university. I just hope things go well in that regard.

Because we can!

Well I know that they steal bikes here, and steal them a lot (and police does not do a thing about that) so I did not get expensive one, just a good city bike that fit my needs (get from old city to my home and get around without a need to relay on public transportation, I hate public transportation...an d public :D)

Well this time I will get a better chain for my bike. I hope that will work... Just need to find a good chain...and a nice light for front and back. Don't like the ones this bike have originally...and I used to have this nice "old style" chrome front light from the Netherlands (black goes really well with chrome). And I do need a proper light as some places I go there are no street light and there are are holes...there are holes everywhere...why do I even want to stay here and not go somewhere else to live? But then again. I bet everywhere else its just as fucked up as here. Alt least I know how fucked up it is here.. :D

p.s. and I did get really pissed, I got so drunk, that I have hangover even today ( bike was stolen a day before yesterday)

I bike a lot. Including long distance trips (1000km). So I have a pretty good bike. I'm kinda uneasy about using it to bike to uni. But it does cut the travel time by third compared to a normal without adding much power(sweat) so I'd love to use it too.
No way am I going to be using public transportation. Too much hassle and don't got the money.

Getting drunk is a wonderful way to forget. Just you'll realise you're just that much poorer the next day. :P

Getting drunk is a wonderful way to forget. Just you'll realise you're just that much poorer the next day. :P

that reminded me form my first time drinking :P my cousin got this idea that they would try to make me drink so much that I would get horible hangover and forget everything :P
well I started drinking (I were about 14 years and 6 months old), first I cleared 4 botles of beer, (that was all hey had) no problem still could walk straight and speak normaly,I tryed to watch the texas chainsaw mascare, couldn't do that :P then I played Left 4 Dead, shooted the wall and shouted ''reload!''.
Then I started to clear the botle of brandy, went down with no problems, now I had problems with walking and talking :P then the last they had was half bottle of cofee liqoure :P drinked that and I were still standing. now they had nothing to make me drink, and only ones standing were I, my cousin and his roomate. I were the only one drinking and all the other 8 were allready sleeping. :P then I started to read manga and every one else went to sleep :P I read one volume of Fruits Basket and went to sleep myself. I started to drink about 0000hours and went to sleep about 0600 hours.

Zuki means a punch so I doubt it was. Mawashi geri maybe?

as I said can be :P I haven't done any karate for 2 years :P

I completly agree :P

not going to spoiler anything, but going to mention that manga had better ending, well it ended same way but it was better.

On another note: I might try Ryubukan first. Seems like a proper dojo. I just hope I don't end up living too far from it. I would have to find a place from somewhere between the dojo and the university. I just hope things go well in that regard.

everything i worth cheking.

I had that same problem there where I lived lasttime :P we moved out of that place about 1 and half ago.
Those damn bastards stole about 8 bikes from me and one was destroyed just for fun, police, of course, did nothing.

I bike a lot. Including long distance trips (1000km). So I have a pretty good bike. I'm kinda uneasy about using it to bike to uni. But it does cut the travel time by third compared to a normal without adding much power(sweat) so I'd love to use it too.

I loke biking but I'm not long distanse biker I bike 15km to one good swiming place and then bike back :P I use Insera Reflex :P I hate public transportation in Helsinki... but in Espoo it is good, it isn't too much hassle and isn't so expensive that it is in Helsinki, but it costs even more in, Kirkkonummi, Somero, Turku, Karjaa, Hanko, Tampere, etc.

Watched the first episode of Death Note. Man that kid is FUCKED UP.
And lazy reapers, lol wut?
At least it starts fast enough.

BTW mah, normal teenager gets drunk from 6 beers or so. And really drunk from 12.
Oh and coffe liquir. Ugh, man that's awful.

So in other words, you're telling me don't use a bike in Helsinki. Someone will steal it. Nice. Will have to get insurance for it.

Oh, the joy of public transportation. When I was in high school a months bus rides would cost me 80€. Yay! You can bet I didn't like winter that much. The moment the snow melted it was biking time.

Because we can!
