...and I can read kanji, I can read hiragana & katakana, I have program that can translate/romanize/change into hiragana, katakana/etc. Kanji's on my PC...

western names are always writen in katakana. + they often get some extra vovels.

for example, My surname is Arjanheimo, and you know, you can't write/pronounce -rja- on japanese, so the -r- on the -rja- turns into ra. so my surname is ; Ar-jan-he-i-mo in Finnish, in japanese it would be, A-ra-ja-n-he-i-mo and it would be written in katakana.
