Just a few minutes ago I was talking with one, he said he was from someplace someplace, not gonna try remembering, and awas going on and finaly he asked if he can ask me a few questions, I said :"Ok, but only under one condition: tell me where did you get my phone number from and I'll answer any question you will ask"
he hung up

Bastards, I have to call my operator and ask if my number really ise hidden or what, I don't remember giving away my numbers

Well, they might get your number from population register, if you have ordered some magazines, they might get it from any company that has anything to do with you and has your phone number Though, that do they get your numbers depends on what they are asking Because, example, you order one magazine, then the puplisher wants to know opinions from readers of their publishers, they ask certain type of company to do the poll, so, they give their customer register for that company in puspose of gathering the data. + The numbers WONT dissappear from their database, but well, if it is company Like taloustutkimus oy, they won't use it for selling stuff and they won't give it forward, but they might call you again, because at least Ronin may thor the phone number at random from the database   AND they can get your number from the operator in certain cases and police has your number as well. Here is many options, and the amount may increase or may not because of your own work.
 I forgot to mention the phone book

+ salesmen will dig up your number if it is possible. + and numberservices have access on any number (in the country, atleast), just that you must know the adress of the person if the number is encrypted. So not hard to get hands on a phone number eh?   + lets not remember that some numbers are protected and the number services just aren't allowed to give away those numbers.

This is why I love living in the UK. Unlike you poor Americans, it's illegal for companies to sell personal details such as phone numbers to 3rd parties without express permission. They're not allowed to store them without your permission either, even if they found the information publicly available somewhere (eg phone book).

Doesn't stop companies who you give your details to from storing them and using them to contact you in the future themselves, and a lot of magazine subscriptions etc have small print saying they can pass your details on to selected 3rd parties unless you opt out, but it makes it so much easier to avoid letting your details fall into the hands of telemarketers. I've never received a marketing call in my life

generalization for the win, I'm not american, and using someones information without permission in my country = jail, thank you very much, that is why he hung up, also, I checked the company's name he gave me, and decided to inform authorities about this in the morning, lets see how this will go.

This is why I love living in the UK. Unlike you poor Americans, it's illegal for companies to sell personal details such as phone numbers to 3rd parties without express permission. They're not allowed to store them without your permission either, even if they found the information publicly available somewhere (eg phone book).

Well, it is illegal if they tell you they wont, we also have no call lists and its illegal to call someone who is on it.
Also, only morons give out contact info to shady "companies" who dont guarantee privacy of information. (Always read the fine print before giving contact info if you are unsure of the place asking)

Anyway- I sign up for the no call list and havent had a telemarketer or anything ring my house in years and years.
When they call, its best to act super interested and waste all their time then at the last minute tell them you decided against it and to take you off their list (thus making it illegal to call again) Then, by wasting their time you make them forfeit other cold calls on which they may have made a commission on.

Ah, sorry. I wasn't sure where you were from so I just went with the assumption that you guys were both American (since that seems to be correct for like 80% of the people I meet online). Plus I had a feeling I'd heard you mention you were from Florida or something before, but I'm not really sure where I got that from.

I said that most members are not American. 22,175 out of 184,783 is still less than 50%. But it's still the country we have the most member from. Nothing surprising since BakaBt is in English.
