... we're supposed to take notes? Also, aren't the classes optional? Some of 'em like to dock points, but -most- of the classes I've taken won't outright fail you if you don't show up to a single lecture—barring those stupid "participation is mandatory" classes.

/It is left as an exercise to the reader to figure out how much of this post is serious. Like most such exercises, no one will probably end up doing it. XD

Oh and I forgot you don't study for your exams before hand in university, you do it the night before your exam. Like me, I had my exam today at 2pm. Started studying at 9am, done by 12.30pm, upto 1.15 revision, be at university by 1.40pm, last minute go-through till 1.50pm, enter hall at 1.55pm, begin at 2pm.

Dang this was my 500^th post and I didn't even realize it till I hit 503 posts.

I'm in a university and we have none of those, we're basically what you call "college".

tsch, that's how everyone i know studies. non of them ever topped the class. but they never failed either.

Give up what? The only notes I take are HW assignments for classes that don't have a webpage listing them, and the occasional "instructor made an interesting aside, look this up later" type scribbles. I'm hardly any sort of "ace student"*, but notes are usually just a waste of paper when it's all right there in the manual. This applies less if you use electronic means, but some instructors outright ban electronics in class, and then there's the godawful issue of typesetting and diagrams...

*Case in point, the first thing I do when I get a syllabus is figure out how many assignments and classes I can miss to get a passing grade.

Admittedly, mine isn't really a "top notch" school where the instructors bother teaching outside of the book, for the most part. For someone at a decent uni, notes are probably at least -modestly- helpful.
