I live in Cleveland, and the temps can dip below 0F often. Though wind chill makes it SOOO much worse.
I remember going to get Burger King one day and went out to my car, left, came back turned on the TV and they said it was -4F outside. I was like WTF? It didn't feel like -4F. Though, it was a dead calm night. That same winter, it was like -1F or hovering around 0 but we had a blizzard and winds were at 15mph and I had to shovel the driveway. It felt like I was gonna die from hypothermia after 3 mins of being outside. It chills you to the bone.
You know what though? That is kind of a benefit for me. On top of making someone hearty, it's the climate swings I like in my region. In the summer, it can be 100+, in the winter, it can be below 0. But that limits what I like to call "the bug factor". I hate bugs with a passion. Between the age of 21 and 24, I took road trips often. I liked driving, and I liked going on vacations. A few of my trips were quite far from Cleveland. Florida, NY city and Midland Texas. I also went to LA, but I flew there. But it was an awaking. Before I took these roadtrips, I had never seen a cockroach or a rat in my life in the wild. I'm not saying they don't exist around here, but it's rare.
On one of those trips, I saw my first "flying cockroach" and freaked out.
So, the weather down south is awesome. So are the woman (especially in Miami), and I had tons of fun. But I could never live down there. I'm just not used to all that. I guess you could call it "climate shock"

(BTW: I'm not trying to insult anyone from the south, I just didn't grow up that way so it was a startling revelation that I was uncomfortable with. I'm sure there are upscale areas where bugs are limited)
