I can destroy a clutch easily. Which is why I drive automatic. I don't really see a point of drive a stick. I know you get better performance and have better control of the engine but when Im done working I just want to drive home and relax and not have to worry about changing gears. I also can care less about gas mileage. I also dont care about fast cars. I dont drive fast anywhere because to me its not worth the chance to get a ticket for or get into a accident

Yea, but your forgetting that not everyone here is from US or Western Europe - so whether I want to or not I don't have a choice.
It's not that automatic is not available, but to the majority of population here is still in the dark ages of stick shift - and so are the schools. There is not even an option not to learn it...

It's not that it's hard, but bloody hell - it's understandable to forget it while you're just starting off, but after days of driving it becomes a habit, you're not even thinking about, just doing it...

I'll post an image from the test just for luzl to see how much of you would get it wrong - just so you can grasp the image of what I'm talking about when I say dark ages...

It's interesting that they provide the car for your test. Is it some sort of "standard" vehicle? Here we have to provide our own vehicle for the driving test

Yea, we ride in the driving school vehicle, it's the one on which they teach you how to drive, and then later the same one you take your test on. And here the law prohibits anyone else teaching you how to drive other then the instructor, (not earlier then the age of 18 as well) and the only vehicle your allowed to be in without a license is that of a driving school...

In the UK if you want to drive a manual or automatic car then you have to learn in a manual- my mum learnt automatic and so has a restricted liscense. And a lot of the cars over here are manual drive anyway, so it opens up what you can drive a hell of a lot more.

Here you take your driving test in either your own car or the car of your driving instructor, and go to a test centre thats got nothing to do with any of the instructors. But it costs about £100 for the practical and £30 for the theory test. I was lucky and passed both first go. I know some people who've taken their practical about 8 times. Thats almost £1000 on test. Owch

Very similar(wonder why

) here but we have 4 test altogether to get our full license, costing $80-120 each test. But I hear it is even more expensive in Italy?

Here in the Netherlands we have the same as the UK apparently, just more expensive.
Also, in the past, we could fly over to Antilles (Netherlands Antilles), drive 1 lap around that island, get a drivers license without even worrying if you would pass or not (It's hard to flunk their practical exam) and use that license here in the Netherlands. It was a cool and easy loophole.
But eventually they changed that.. Something about it not being really safe and all xD

You don't want to know how easy and cheap it is to get a license here. And it shows in the quality of our drivers. When I took my test if you tested in an auto you got a restricted license but I don't see anything about that on the DMV website anymore.
