Depending on the age of the handset and the service provider, sim transfer may not work. Verizon doesn't utilize sim cards, avoiding the whole free phone/unlocking problems that cost them income. USB Cable is the best bet, yet that depends on the age again. Pen and paper is 100% available, but time consuming  , but compared to finding a program for an outdated phone....this sounds like a lesser of two evils scenario to me.

There are phones with no sim cards?! I've never seen one like that over here in the UK. My sim card has space for something like 100 contacts and 10 text messages on it.

Doesn't surprise me, the U.S. is a little backward(not that backward is any less foreward than it is backward) just different. Yeah, verizon uses internal memory and made the sim slot into a micro sd port. I personally think it has more pro's than cons. But when it comes to buying a frieds phone and using it, sim cards for the win. I wanna get on my Buell and run my old verizon phone over

How odd. What happens when you get a new phone then? Surely transferring all those numbers is pretty awkward?

Which reminds me I need to start looking for what phone I want next, my contracts almost over.

I got the software(c##ts charge for computer to phone software, like I'm paying for that) working, I just had to find the usb port drivers and stuff around with setting a bit. The reason i wanted to get the software to work was cause i was changing my sim and this was the only way to get the contacts across(without pen and paper). I was also hoping i could delete the locked sample pictures and rings tones off it so it has more room but no luck. I should just get a new phone but its something around $500 to get the modem equivalent to what mine does(mine cost $50).

Verizon has a rig that both phones are plugged into and data goes from one end to the other. Basically a straight transfer like an external hard disk. As for Dontcarett, phones are ridiculously priced wherever you go, my Omnia i910 which isn't worth getting unless you extensively hack it(except for the 8gig internal memory) was $280 with a two year plan. My hometown in Canada sells the equivalent(minus the exchange rate) for about 40 dollars more. The locked pics can be deleted if you plug the phone into ur computer, open the folder and uncheck the "read-only" box in properties menu, then just hit delete.(once again depends on the model) But there will always be a way to delete any item on a phone. I even have a registry cleaner/editor loaded on my pocketpc omnia.

Okay one thing I have heard about this, it works great if you keep the same brand of phones but I have heard it has some major issues when your going cross brand. My friend is like me because of this, notepad with all of your contacts with numbers in it. Though I love blackberries with the back-up feature makes it so much easier to port things from older to newer phones.

Yeah i can attest to that cross-brand sync error. My motoRazor V3m transferred all contact information, truly didn't lose a single number, except for the numbers and names that didn't reconnect on my new phone. All the numbers, All the names, only problem is "so out of 120 contacts this number could belong to about 118 of them based on the area code..is there nothing you can talk about something other than miss verizon sales-rep's mom do for a living. LOL I needed to talk and now I'm good. General chat thread:my new best friend.

Got 2 months left on my contract now... sort of hoping that they release a new set of phones for my upgrade, not sure I want an LG Cookie. :/

I want a BlackBerry Curve, that way I can upgrade from the trackwheel to the trackball. I will keep my 8700g as a back-up for sure though. But we will probably be moving services before I switch phones or I will be moving so sort of forced to change services (well that is if this out of state planning starts to pan out...)

My boyfriend will moan at me and moan at me and tell me to get an iphone, but I cannot justify £35 a month when I don't call people- it comes with something like 400 minutes and only about 1000 texts. I'll use all the texts but not the minutes. So my little plan for unlimited texts and 100 minutes will be fine again. And it'll only cost me £13 this time! Score.

I think almost every service provider over here does the same plan now, with the unlimited texts. I'm on Orange's Dolphin 15 plan.

I-phone isn't worth your time. What with the connectivity and compatibility issues, then sending out brand new phones when they still haven't fixed their 3G network. And no taking videos, mandatory data plan subscription, and its more expensive itself than many better phones. Just my opinion.

Its brilliant for what my boyfriend uses it for. But hardly useful for me. I never had any intentions to buy one anyway, unless my dad had let me have the one he 'aquired'. But thats imei locked anyway

Surely the 3G problem is more to do with the provider than the phone- o2 in the UK etc. And you can take videos with the 3GS, and the data plan isn't compulsary, they can be bought payg too.

Least they're not buggy enough that they pick themselves up. Can't remember what the phone my boyfriend had when we started dating was, but it used to pick itself up when anyone called. I wasn't there once and it did it while he was in bed, and all he could hear was me singing "Boardy it picked itself up againnnn!"
