For some reason even with all of Lelouch's faults(hypocrite, stereotypical power crazed person) I didn't hate him.

Sephiroth would be an ineffective villain if he was affable and did charitable acts, at least by video game standards. I don't see how you can hate a man who has his own orchestral theme though.

I also feel the need to point out that Shinji Ikari is suffering from major depression that really defines his character, with extremely low self-esteem verging on self-hatred, social withdrawal, anxiety, and a generally self-defeating mindset - he can't succeed because he doesn't believe success is attainable, nor does he believe that he is worthy of anything beneficial in life, thus even when he does achieve something he deminishes it with his neurotic outlook on life - because that's depression.

Incidently the cognative therapy for depression is explored in the ending to the NGE television series, with his whole reality changing through a simple paradigm shift.

Seconded. Even though the movie was meh, Advent Children had a kick ass metalized One Winged Angel theme.

i just watched Toradora and i honestly felt like stabbing ryuu so much not only is he frigin ugly but he doesnt decide a thing for himself the entire show, he just gets told what to do by everyone and goes with the flow.

fuck yeh l know but it was really sad the first time l played that game and to see she dies, really hated that bastard ever since, and every momment l saw him l wanted to OMNISLASH HIM 1000x over and over again.

he has good BGM but l'd rather sacrifice Tifa than Aerith.

Was just joking, but there ways of hacking it so she doesn't die and that is one of them

I'll join in the chorus of hate for the protagonists of NGE and School Days (Ended up dropping the show because of it. I know what happens at the end but it just isn't worth sitting through 12 episodes to get there).

What I really hate are those characters who they are careful to make as unlikeable as possible but never kill. Like that serial killer in Parasyte.

I've never understood the hatred directed at Shinji Ikari; he may not be the archetypical hero, but he is nevertheless an amazing protagonist, if one factors in the vintage of NGE. Instead of an up-beat brat who can't wait to lay waste to the enemy or an angst-ridden teen who can't get over this one traumatic experience in his past (murdered parents, witnessing a brutal homicide, losing at scrabbles etc), we have a protagonist who actually seems real, for all his apathetic depression. I'd put him ahead of -any- protagonist influenced by the above (partially or not), and that includes pretty much anyone from a shounen show.

Having said that, the purpose of this thread was to name your most hated character. This is problematic, since I tend to drop series where I simply can't stand a given character (if this happens to be the protagonist, it's a given). I'd probably go for Light of Death Note fame, since the megalomaniac narcissist made me drop the show; a pity, since the concept was great, but five episodes of monologues from God's gift to man and an exposition hell that makes Goodkind seem sane was simply too much to bear.

^I'm with you, I never understood why so many people despise Shinji either. I've seen NGE around 4 times now and I just don't see what's so hateable about him.

Anyway my most hated charcater....hmm... let's see, well I'm just gonna say Afro Samurai since I saw Resurection recently and although he probably isn't my most hated I did hate him to quite some extent. He's a selfish, miserable, remourseless bastard! I understand killing in self defense but he kills people for his own needs not caring about the hurt he inflicts on those that care for the ones he slays. You think he would understand since his father was killed before him as a boy. SPOILER: His whole journey seems utimately pointless in resurection since he goes after the number 1/2 headbands in order to retrieve his father's body from being tortured but in the end Afro kills him himself. And after all the violence is over, you think he would've learnt by now the chaos that comes with the headbands and that he would destroy them but instead he hands the number 2 to the defensless boy who he himself orphaned, making the boy a prime target for all kinds of people who desire the band. What an idiot!

I'm gonna have to agree with DimensionW on this one ... this girl was a damn racist mega-bitch. Every time she started bitching and crying about having to be in the presence of "Elevens" made me want to falcon kick her in the face. --- oh, her name was Nina Einstein by the way.

And I'm going to have to disagree with some of the Lelouch and Yagami Raito bashing that's been going on ... sure they might have been a bit hypocritical "champions of justice" but they didn't come across as annoying characters to me - rather I found them to be rather interesting. The same goes for Shinji Ikari, and of course Gendo Ikari, all of whom were totally kick-ass characters.

Oh, and the kids in Detective Conan, with the exception of Conan himself, were incredibly obnoxious. Every time they were in an episode I hoped the three annoying kids would be kidnapped, and Conan would succeed in unveiling the mystery of where they were and who had kidnapped them, but not before the three had been violently murdered.
