uTorrent can do plugins?  No.  Though it does do a lot without them.

I wish Azureus never became Vuze.  Making it even more bloated, though much of the resource hogging is Java's fault.

I use both.  For basic torrenting, look no further than uTorrent.  If want access to many extra functions and plugins, Azureus is worth it.

I use Transmission (GTK) on Linux. When I use Windows (pretty much never) I use uTorrent.

Transmission is nice, the GUI is easy to use and finding torrents is quick with categories, searching and the different sorting methods, even with 100s of torrents. Also nice is the RPC interface. I can write a script to control torrents however I like (for example, automatically stopping public torrents at a 1.1 ratio while leaving private torrents alone). My only gripe are how damn unresponsive it is while hashing existing files (hey this is 2009, 'threads' and 'aync IO' exist... mmk!)

I'll probably try Deluge just to see how it is.

I've used my fair share of clients. First Mainline (which was decent, but a bit basic back then), then BitTornado (a solid improvement, not a bad client really), then Azureus. Azureus was still Azureus when I was using it, and I liked it. Solid interface, lots of features, and an ability to work around the NAT problems I was having back then. I've tried it since, but don't like it now. It felt a bit bloated back then, now it's like having a blue whale on my desktop.

I dropped Azureus when I moved to Linux, and started using KTorrent. It was a nice client, though I missed some features from Azureus. It also seemed to have catastrophic memory leaks in the versions I used back then, eventually causing me to dump it for Deluge. I'm still using Deluge now, and it seems to have a little bit more than KTorrent in terms of features, and doesn't use nearly as much memory. The interface isn't exactly attractive, but I'll live with that.

So, long story short, Deluge is my client of choice.

utorrent 1.6.1.
I heard that bitcoment reports incorrect ratio statistics resulting in a higher seeded profile than usual.  Also I heard it doesn't have the disabling of DHT and uses heavy resources on your computer.
that was very, very old issue back to ver 0.60. according to wikipedia, that exploit was fixed on ver 0.61 and current version is 1.12(although I'm using 0.64)
aside of some black old  day story, now BC is clean and very efficient client.

as far i use this client don't have any resource issue.it's resource consumption may not good as utorrent but since it built using C++, it was far  better than java based one such as vuze.

So in other words I've been using torrents for that long?... Am I old?... No I can't be... NOOOOOO!  :'(

I use Transmission. It has a simple interface and it is easy to set up. It does lag sometimes when checking existing files but that is forgivable for the stability of the whole thing.

I've been using uTorrent for years now, and it's one of the easiest clients I've ever used. Official and BitComet being some of them. It's fast, doesn't require much memory and tiny as hell, what's not to like? I don't get why people still hold on to Vuze or some other crap. One of my friends likes to use Vuze, though it's easy to see that the program is one big motherfucker with too much content. I use uTorrent to download/seed and that's all it needs to. And well, the fact that it's allowed here makes me so much happier that I decided to stay with it.

Agreed. I don't feel like or want to install extra plugins for my client, either there are there when I install the damn thing or I just live without. I try the hardest not to install too much I either don't know if I'll ever need or know works for me. A slow computer is the last thing I need.

I would switch to µTorrent, but I don't know how to transfer all of my torrent data over from Vuze, and I'm too lazy to do a bunch of research on it, so meh.

1) Search for .torrent files in your Vuze program folder (or wherever you saved them), drag&drop them into uTorrent.
2) In the "Add torrent" dialog box in uTorrent, select the folder where the files are stored, uncheck the "start torrent automatically" checkbox, click "Ok".
3) Right-click, select "force recheck", start the torrent when it's done hashing.

Doesn't get any easier than that. If you didn't do any changing of downloading directories (i.e. you just let Vuze handle everything by itself), you can easily set uTorrent's default download directory to be the same as Vuze's, and then you won't need to change anything at all. You can even disable the add torrent dialog box and make torrents start themselves automatically, if you're sure everything is in the right folder and will hash by itself.

=0 Wow. I thought I was going to have to jump through a lot more hoops than that. Fantastic! Thanks a million. :)

Edit: Also, whoever had the idea to put [BakaBT.xxxxvx] in front of all the torrent files, I love you. A lot. I thought for the longest time that I was deleting the torrent files, but apparently I wasn't... and there are thousands in here. Yay for BakaBT!

It's uTorrent for me.. Back when I was a newbie in file-sharing, I used BitComet. Download speed sucked though. Then I switched to uTorrent. I'm currently testing out the beta version 2.0 build 16126. Faster downloads than 1.8.3. Lots of hash fails and it would crash once a day. It IS beta after all.

I started out with bitcomet then later flipped to Azureus with add-ons, then followed it into Vuze (I still find that was the worst mistake ever on their part...) after Vuze I hit my first time into µTorrent then flipped to Limewire for awhile then got annoyed went back to µTorrent and then someone pushed eMule onto me which quickly went away, and went again back to µTorrent which I will stay at. Older Azureus was nice for the mods, but I still find µTorrent tends to beat it for resource management. I try to keep this machine up to date with everything. The main use on a normal basis for this box is IRC, Ventrilo music bot, and seeding with the occasional opening of a guild wars client to do a easier dual browser(means I broke the dual browser on my main box yet again).

I'm running on a mac and use UTorrent, its a small program and it gets the job done. Very straight forward and easy to use

Oohhh, I remember when I first started torrenting about hmmmm 4 years back. (I know, it's not soo long ago, but still).  µTorrent seemed to be the logical choice, due to its small size, simple user interface and it didn't need any high level tweaking for it to work good (not to mention the awesome name [microTorrent], heck yeah!). I believe they were on version 1.5 or so.

I have recently tried Bitcomit on my laptop, only to soon after be told it was Blacklisted, which must be for good reasons, cuz I didn't like it anyway.

And the still quite small application known as µTorrent does have quite a bit more to offer for those who want to get a bit more suffisticated.

Note: I wouldn't really count Limewire as a real torrent client, eMule almost falls into the same catagory, but I only really used it before I started torrenting.

I use uTorrent on Windows. With Mac I'm using Vuze right now. I tried uTorrent for Mac, but I feel it doesn't have as many options in changing the connection settings, and it is also still in beta last time I checked. I also tried Transmission recently because I heard it was the best for Macs, but I couldn't download anything for some reason.

In all honesty though, Vuze(Azureus), gets the job done perfectly. All you really need the client for is to have a connection with trackers, and if you just adjust the settings in preferences for uTorrent or Vuze, then you should pretty much get the same results in terms of speed. That's how it seems to me, so don't quote me on this if I'm just making things up. Yes, Vuze looks bulky, and I don't like it for that, but it doesn't really matter to me because I'm not using it as an internet browser or something. I just start it up, go to my library tab where I see all my torrents, and then just leave it on. But I probably will change to Transmission or uTorrent later on anyway.

P.S. How do you pronounce Vuze? Vu-ze, Vooz, Vews?

I think its pronounced as Vooz. I'm not sure if thats the correct pronounciation.

I've been previously using BitLord in downloading and sometimes I encounter problems in the downloaded data especially video formats. The files were re-checked after downloading and when I tried to played the file, an error occurred and refused to play in all players that I have. My problem was solved when I started using Azureus /Vuze (in Ubuntu Linux) and uTorrent in (Windows). They get the job done without any problems.  :D

I'm using uTorrent.   actually was stuck on 1.9 Alpha for a long time because I won't get throttled on  UDP/uTP.   Upgraded to 1.8.5 though once I figured out how to force uTP only connections.   Although I wanted to use the latest Beta out there,  its blocked here  :-[
