Waiting passionately for the rest of Irasshai II )

I've already started to review season one but my curiousity is actually a little bit stronger than I thought.

It would be great to finish this awesome course soon.

EDIT2:
I posted some today, plus i fixed ep 19 of season 2. I'll get some more asap, probably tomorrow. If not, feel free to troll me some more.

Awesome. It's really great to continue now  8)

When I watch it my mind always compares it to Let's Learn Japanese Basic [Yan and Japanese People series] that gave me the first actual result from all other stuff I've been trying to use. It was great but Irasshai is more modern and not boring at the reviews at all =) That's the best thing about it [imho].

Sure, waiting for the rest as usual  ;)

EDIT: episode 19 from season 1 is missing

Everything is up except for Irasshai II PDFs, but those can be found on the website.

Let me know if anything isn't working.

I finally started with this guide

http://guidetojapanese.org/

It seems pretty complete and so far I know hiragana and katakana. Now I'm going with grammar. That guide goes with kanjis from the start. Any tips or particular order for learning kanjis? Or I just look them up when I see them for the first time? I also like to buy some book for kanji (with stroke orders and the meanings in hiragana and English). Anyone to recommend? Now I'm using this

http://www.csse.monash.edu.au/~jwb/cgi-bin/wwwjdic.cgi?1C

I think I could start with the kanjis for the words I already know. A few minutes ago I learned how to write 桜, 冬, 夏, 春 and 秋. It's not much but just something to start with :)

What does "[sic]" mean? I don't think anyone got sick in the article so why is it in there? Should I start writing and post "[dump]" when I leave to go take a shit then return?

do not listen to any of these people, go and learn it from a person who teaches it, i went and learnt it at colllege...after class lessons... and i leant japanese in 1 month, and i got taught to speak like a person from japan instead of someone trying to speak it, like for example someone who comes from some far away country like russia and says HELLLO MY NAME IS MARK.

let the teacher explain to you how japanese work.

its the most effective way to learn japanese,  but even going to like 6 lessons you will understand how japanese sentences are structured and how they are different from english.

and to top it off, if u go to japan, u will have a much bigger improvement from getting those lessons.

(you need someone to tell you if your doing it off)
(you don't know a mistake, if you don't know about it first)

In my opinion, the most you benefit from subtitled anime is Japanese vocabulary.

I will throw a cluster of words (and/or phrases?) I learned and I am sure most of you who probably watched anime for years would recognize many. These are only some:

baka, demo, nande, wakateru, ame, yume, bakemono, wakarimasu, wakarimasen, soriyori, nani, chigaimasu, mi-te, hikari, aka, kuro, shiro, ni-ge-te, hayaku, watashi, boku, nii-san, ne-san, otoko, unna, kanojo, otosan, okasan, obachan, ikkiimaasu, kso, shiksho, matte, toma-re, koros, shinjite, kanashimi, yasashi, futari, anatawa, minna, kisama, dareka, taicho, hi-me, sekai, sai-kyo, honto, yada, naniyo, jodan, da-me, kirai, ai, ski

Oh, some include honorifics but we all know them, san, kun, chan, sama, dono, sensei, senpai, kohai, bozu and (none)

Anyone who didn't "properly" learn Japanese know these words?

Specifically, what you really learn from anime are the short phrases and especially the cursing and battle yells because they tend to be uniform, isolated, and repeated constantly. Like: teme, kisama, bakero, ikuzo, jamasuruna, aho, yurusenai, koroshite, kuso, shimatta, etc. And I am convinced that at least 90% of pop/anime theme songs contain the word yume (dream), followed closely by kokoro (heart).

One way is that after you learn katakana and hiragana is to change everything in Japanese.I mean,PC,phone, the music you listen, games you play, movies etc. Also, try downloading something dual audio, something kinda short and that you know quite well. Then listen to it in Japanese,no subs.It must be something you enjoy.Far less easier to learn stuff while enjoying them.

It's how I learned English.I mean, those were early days,I was just a kid,and all my cartoons were in English,so not much of a choice.Anyway, you guys who want to learn Japanese could use a Japanese friend or even a trip there(though that should come later on,since you'll hardly manage at a low and even advanced level).

If you ask me,the easiest way to learn a language is by living with those native speakers, since you automatically learn some slang, jokes, maybe accent and it's a lot faster. So,since I don't think someone here actually wants to do this just to learn it,I once again suggest to recreate the conditions as best you can.

Oh,and also, this might sound stupid, but try talking in Japanese, even if alone. It's quite a problem,at least here, with kids who know English well, but they can't say 2 phrases well.So try speaking, because when you'll go there and see the cosplayers,I don't think you wouldn't want to ask them out.

Okay, so let me just say for the people who are wondering: I just finished a semester of college level Japanese, I aced it and I learned a TON.

I'll just throw it out there that if you are learning romanji, you're doing it wrong and won't be able to learn Japanese very well. Before you do ANYTHING, learn kana. I don't just mean look over them, but be able to fluently read and write them. If you don't, there is no way you will be able to get past the standard anime expressions.

As for writing, thats something I had to crack open a book for.  :(

Minna no nihongo (txtbook, workbook, kanji, all of them have multiple lvls) + Varley - Japanese culture 4th edition

Minna no nihongo teaches you the language of japanese, varley teaches you everything else basically ::)

nuff said.

I study Japanese at university level btw (yes, an ACTUAL study called "languages and culture of japan")

Besides the language, its background, history and nuances, it also teaches us about all the cultural aspects of Japan.

I'm only in my first year, but now after a few months of study I can honestly say im starting to understand so much more from watching anime.

Even though I still watch subbed versions, I can follow the conversations well enough to pick up certain linguistical jokes and nuances, which the Japanese are very fond of and use a lot.

I used the Minna no nihongo books, they work great. The course i followed was like 1 chapter each lesson, 2 lessons a week. So in like 2 months you can speak Japanese XD

Using Romanji is a bad habit to get into.
